Biography of Elsie J. Griffiths (Web
Page2- About Elsie)
Elsie
resides in Comox, B.C. surrounded by the majestic Comox Glacier,
Goose Spit Regional Park, MacDonald Woods, Mack Lang Park and picturesque
Comox Bay.
Elsie has been painting and
drawing for the past 25 years. Although primarily self-taught, she
has attended workshops by Zolton Szabo, Harry Heine, David MacLagan,
Joyce Kamikura, Gerrit Verstraete and Alan Wylie. Elsie also attended
one of the Federation of Canadian Artists Salt Spring Island Seminars.
She is an active member of the "F.C.A." and currently
paints with the "Brushworks Painters" in Comox.
A successful gallery owner
for many years, Elsie has taught children's, adult's and senior
citizen's painting classes - in her gallery, at night school and
through recreation programmes.
After selling the Lemon Tree
Gallery, Elsie attended the Fine Arts programme at North Island
College and studied under Brian Scott, Alan Burgess, David McLean
and John Hooley.
Since retirement, Elsie has
continued to paint, mainly in watercolours. Her interest in pencil
drawing has led her to printmaking - etching (intaglio), monotype
and mono print and she finds these mediums both challenging and
satisfying.
Her work is in private collections
in Canada, U.S.A., Europe and Japan. Locally her artwork has been
shown in group shows at the Muir Gallery, Filberg Gallery, and Filberg
Lodge and in juried shows on Vancouver Island and in Vancouver. |
