Biography of Elsie J. Griffiths:
Elsie
has recently moved to Craig Bay, a beautiful seaside community in Parksville, B.C.
Elsie has been painting and
drawing for the past 25 years. Although primarily self-taught, she
has attended workshops by Zolton Szabo, Harry Heine, David MacLagan,
Joyce Kamikura, Gerrit Verstraete, Alan Wylie and recently, a portrait workshop by David Goatley of Victoria. Elsie has also attended
a Federation of Canadian Artists Salt Spring Island Seminar.
She is an active member of the "F.C.A.", a past member of the "Brushworks Painters" in Comox. She is now a member of the DeCosmos
Fine Art Society and the Oceanside Community Arts Council in Parksville.
A successful gallery owner
for many years, Elsie has also taught children's, adult's and senior
citizen's painting classes - in her gallery, at night school and
through recreation programmes.
After selling the Lemon Tree
Gallery, Elsie attended the Fine Arts programme at North Island
College and studied under Brian Scott, Alan Burgess, David McLean
and John Hooley where she fell in love with the printmaking process
The scope of Elsie's work now includes oils, watercolours, acrylics, drawings, etchings, monotypes and mixed medium.
Elsie, a founding member of the Originals Only art group, has participated in group shows at the Muir Gallery, Pearl Ellis Gallery, Filberg Lodge, in juried shows on Vancouver Island and Vancouver and has had one person shows at the Pearl Ellis Gallery. In the fall of 2007 she had a two person show, "Painterly Printmaking", at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in Comox. Her work is in private collections in Canada, USA, Europe and Japan.
